Today, Gr. 1-6 from my school (CCCA) and Gr. 1-6 from Burdett School got to experience Farm Safety Day in the community of Burdett. The students learned a lot. I learned a lot. The volunteers were probably exhausted by the end of the day but in the end it was such a great experience and fun for all.
One thing I've found significantly different in the schools in rural communities is that Health class topics can be significantly different. I don't ever remember having or learning about farm safety growing up in the city. We never got to go look at big farming equipment close up and personal. But here in Foremost, Bow Island and Burdett the students get to experience a whole entire day learning the ins and outs of farm safety; from germs to equipment safety to chemical safety and they get a loot bag to take home to boot! What kid doesn't like to take home a bag full of goodies?

Here's another great Art project find from Pinterest. All you need are coffee filters and bingo dabbers. The students loved this project and it was so simple and the results....STUNING!
I am so proud of how one of my first art projects with my Grade 1's & 2's. We used small square paint canvases from the Dollar Store, painters tape, acrylic paints, and glitter.
Step 1 - Have students cut or rip pieces of tape and place them on the canvas. Step 2 - Using a few different colors of paint, have the students paint all over the canvas, even over the tape. Step 3 - Sprinkle glitter over top of the wet paint. Step 4 - Allow time for the paint to completely dry. Step 5 - Carefully pull off the painters tape from the canvas. Voila! A masterpiece. t has taken many sacrifices over the past 4 years or so. I have to first and foremost thank my husband and children for putting up with my crazy schedule: late nights, early mornings, and absenteeism. I also have to thank my parents who helped form the foundation of the person I have become today. You have always been there for me, not matter the circumstances. Thank you Mom and Dad also for the free babysitting and a place to stay if I ever needed it. You can never forget the teacher, professors and mentors that bring you to this academic achievement. Thank you for pushing me to be and do my best, helping me expand my mind, and mold me into a professional. I also can't forget my friends and super helpful community members who have always been so willing to lend a hand in whatever way was needed. Most importantly I have to thank my Lord and Savior for giving me the strength and perseverance to get through these past years.
Just a BIG THANK YOU to EVERYONE who helped me get here! WOW, I can't believe it. I have my very own classroom. I am a TEACHER! So I didn't get much a Christmas holiday but I have officially gone from student to teacher. It's still hard for me to comprehend. Here is some before and after shots of my Gr. 1/2 classroom at Cherry Coulee Christian Academy (CCCA). BeforeAfterJust as I did at St. Francis Jr. High, I also volunteered my time in the mornings at ESM for the Breakfast Club from September until the Christmas break. Other than preparing breakfast for the students that came each morning, we also prepared snacks for those without any at recess times, as well as the after school snack for FMNI students that had an extra long bus ride each afternoon out to the reservation. It was such a privilege to learn the ropes and work along side Mrs. Darlene Hooper. I will miss our morning conversations.
Well, what better way to finish of my PSIII experience than with a job offer for my first teaching position! All my hard work over the past few years has brought me to this moment. I am excited to joining the staff and students at Cherry Coulee Christian Academy.
While searching for an art project in the great world of Pinterest, I came upon a great pin. The pin lead me to That Artist Woman. The project turned out to be a great success with stunning pieces of art created by my students.
We continued with our 7 Habits of Highly Effective People training today. We were only able to work through one of the habits, Habit #3 - Put First Things First; the habit of integrity and execution. I feel that Habit #3 is one of the most important habits to learn and one of the habits I struggle the most with. Planning and prioritizing, I am slowly getting better at. However, it following through with what I had planned is where I struggle the most! The Time Matrix (see picture) is an eye opener and convicting. I myself definitely need to work harder at being in quadrant 2 (aka - Q2). One thing I never thought of doing before and believe it is good way to plan one's time is by prioritizing based on one's personal mission statement and the roles that come out of it. It is a new goal of mine to try and plan this way. |
