St. Francis Junior High School
My Professional Semester II (PSII) was spent at St. Francis Junior High School. St. Francis Jr. High (SFJH) is located in Lethbridge, Alberta and is part of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4. My experience at SFJH was amazing! It was my first experience of any kind in a Catholic school. I really enjoyed teaching within a faith based school. Although, because I am not Catholic myself, many of the religious practices within the school were new and fascinating to me.
My practicum at SFJH was much different than my PSI experience. At SFJH, I taught and assisted with four different grade 8 Social Studies classes and a Sports Issues 8 option class. I also often observed and assisted with the grade 9 Soccer Academy. I taught a much larger student base than I did in my PSI. Learning the names of over 140 students was a challenge to say the least! In addition to teaching, I was able to be involved in a few extracurricular activities around the school. I helped out with the breakfast club in the mornings and depending on the day, I often spend my lunch hours assisting with intramurals, beading club, or drumming club. I enjoyed spending time with the students in a non-academic setting.
