Airdrie Koinonia Christian School (AKCS)
In January 2018, I accepted at temporary position at AKCS as a kindergarten teacher. Another new teaching adventure for me!
This was actually a fairly easy transition for me coming from Renfrew Educational Services. Due to the position being a maternity leave position, much of the planning and prepping for the rest of the year was already done as the current teacher had been teaching kindergarten for several years at AKCS. All the unit materials were well organized and ready to go all I had to do was teach! Also, this wasn't much different than the teaching style or pre-school level teaching I was doing at R.E.S.
My new classroom consists of 23 students and two educational assistants. This is almost double what most of my previous classroom sizes have been, other than my practicums. Teaching at this level is very high energy and fun. And although, much of the planning was already done for me, I have added my own twist on activities and teaching styles/methods. It took some adjustment on the students behalf but it didn't take to long for them to settle in with me.
In the Fall of 2018, I continued my contract and took on a whole new group of lovely children. My classroom this time includes 24 students with a few students having unique learning needs. Again, as I continue to follow that plans laid for me, I like to add my own flare and change things up every once and awhile.
