For my first assigned unit in my practicum I decided to use a variety of centers to teach the students. My unit consisted of 6 different centers that integrated a variety of skills and learning experiences. My students loved these stations and were excited to work at them and looked forward moving on to see what the next station entailed.

All week ESM collected toonies to support the Terry Fox Foundation. Today we gathered for an assembly where a family member of Terry Fox (who was also a family member of one of our students) gave us a presentation on life of Terry Fox and the meaning behind the run. After the assembly we all headed to Henderson Lake to participate in the "run" portion of the fundraising efforts. It was a great event to support and also it allowed some time outside of the classroom to connect with other staff members and students, as well as my own students. Fun was had by all for a fantastic cause! Tonight was the Welcome Back BBQ at Ecole St. Mary (ESM). It was wonderful and an experience that put me a little out of my comfort zone. Before families started to arrive we as a staff were given a blessing by Father Kevin Tumback. It was a bit of a new experience for me as I am not very familiar with Catholic customs. After the blessing the staff took their posts around the gym to get ready to serve the families coming for the BBQ. As families started to trickle in, I was starting to get a glimpse of what the ESM community was comprised of. I was a bit amazed at the wide diversity among the families. The part of the evening that really made me step out of my comfort zone was after the dinner. Mrs. Matz and myself proceeded to our classroom where we had a chance to meet and greet with parents of the students of our classroom or parents that just wanted to come in for a visit. I am a shy person and get a little anxious when meeting new people. However, it experience was rewarding in that we got chat with some very wonderful people and get some insight into some of our students. It was a great evening. After hours of planning and preparation I am finally ready to put my first Grade 3 Social Studies Unit into action. Let the learning commence!
